With five openings, each being eight feet wide and seven feet tall, we had to have custom doors built for the house. We wanted them to open in a way that would consume as little porch space as possible, leaving us the maximum living area.
We had a local builder make the doors to our specifications with solid wood on the bottom and screening on top. This allows light and air to flow when the doors are closed, yet gives us some protection from the wind when needed as well as a cozy feeling in the morning and evening.
Once installed, we needed to wait a few weeks before the hardware could be installed. We ordered the hardware from the US because we couldn't find what we liked here in Bocas. We also wanted to install the hardware ourselves, and needed some practice on scrap wood for running the router before risking the doors.
The end result makes us very happy and makes opening and closing the doors very easy.
