Being a rain forest, Bocas Del Toro gets a lot of rain. We have plenty of blue sky days, but almost every day we get rain. Usually in the evening, throughout the night and in the morning. But some times it rains all day long.
The rain is fairly warm so it isn't too bad to get wet, but when you have places to go or if we need to be out on the water, the rain does get to be a bit challenging. But when we want to do a little yard work or we feel like going for a swim off the beach, the rain isn't a problem. Back in Oregon we got an average of 80 inches of rain each year. Here we get an average of 136 inches of rain each year.
Because there isn't an accurate weather app for our location, we purchased a mini-weather station. We have been surprised to see that by the 21st of December, we have already had 16 inches of rain. This seems to be making up for those few dry weeks we saw back in October.
For the most part, most days are clear and dry but many are overcast. We were surprised to come to the realization that overcast is actually much better than clear skies. The clouds keep the direct sun off of us and make us feel a lot cooler.
The daily temperature doesn't really fluctuate all that much throughout the year. Lows get down to 20c and highs reach 35c (68f-95f).
We don't really have seasons here. But October is dryer than average and December is wetter than average.
We don't get hurricanes here ever. This is where they start, then they move up into the gulf of Mexico or they start out in the Atlantic and move into the Florida area. Here we do get some tropical storms. There have been a couple times where the winds were strong enough to bring rain all the way into the house through our screens. (we have no glass on our windows due to air flow needs) On those few days, we have tarps that we bring up to cover the triangles at our roof line. This prevents the rain from getting in and reduces the wind flow in the house.
Over all, we are very happy with the weather here.
