The original story is here: Snake on our deck!
The snake has returned two days in a row. Yesterday the bird were going bonkers and the snake came up the stairs right in front of us. Tina spotted him first and I went out and captured him. I don't want to harm the snake, he is only trying to survive like any other living creature and he poses no danger to us. So I took him a bit further into the jungle to the edge of our main plot of land. I only had slip-on shoes so I couldn't go very far.
Today I experienced the most amazing thing. The bird was acting weird in front of the door so I came out and looked around. I saw nothing even when I walked all around the house. So I sat down. Then the bird came back and was once again acting weird, so I inspected again. Still nothing, so I sat back down. Then the bird got very very brave and flew around to get my attention and finally landed on the twinkle lights in the rafter and hopped up on one rafter while chirping in a weird say. He flew away right as Tina came up the stairs. That is when saw the snake coiled up in the rafter about two feet from where the bird last sat chirping.
OMG! That bird actually knew that I would take the snake away once I saw it. He made several attempts to get my attention. Each attempt he got closer and closer to the snake until I actually spotted it. This is near the top of my list of amazing experiences. An animal found a way to communicate directly with me. There is no other way to explain the progression of events.
The snake in itself was cool to handle. But the interaction with the bird left me with a feeling of awe.
No, I will not kill the snake. It is of no danger to us even through it does freak Tina out. Like any other living creature it simply wants food. Who am I to decide that the snake should die just because I like the birds a bit more? I am just enjoying being a part of the wild life around here, not just a spectator or visitor. This time, after getting my boots on, I took the snake about 1/4 of a mile out into the jungle. Hopefully he won't find his way back again. But we will keep an look-out.
