Renewing a passport online
No need to visit an office or mail the old passport back to the government.
The process starts on the official US Government website. They say that no 3rd party providers can actually perform this service and they warn not to waste your money.

The renewal process was very easy.
- You need your current passport and some basic information.
- They verify that what you provide matches their records.
- You submit a photo of yourself on a white background.
- Verify all the information you provided.
- You provide a US shipping address.
- You pay the fee.
- Then you wait 4-6 weeks.
Because we live full time in Panama, we can't have them ship direct to us. But we have this problem with lots of things we order from US companies. We have a shipping address in Florida where our letters and packages go and they charge us a small fee to deliver to us here in Panama. It is very convenient and so far, not one single item has gotten lost. (delayed, but never lost)
I submitted my application on April 25th 2026. Let's see how long it actually takes for the new passprot to arrive.
