The local from next door needed help in the early morning.
It's 5:30am and the sun is just starting to lighten the sky. The remote door bell rings and when I answer, the local from next door is speaking far too quickly for me to catch much of anything, but it is clear it is important. I tell him to wait and I go down to see what the issue is.
Once I get him to slow down, it becomes clear that his cayuco (canoe) has drifted away from the dock. It isn't clear if his rope broke or just came untied, but he is asking for help to go get it.
We jump into my boat and we head out to sea. For a motor boat, the cayuco wasn't all that far away, but if he had to swim to get it, that would have been difficult. Especially since it was drifting away at a pretty decent pace. I am not even sure he could have caught it at all.
We pull up along side and I use an extra rope of mine to lash the cayuco to the back of the big boat. We then slowly tow it back to the dock.
All in all, the process took about half an hour including getting my boat secured back in its slip. For me, it was no big deal. For him, it was major.
This is just part of how things work around here. When neighbors need help, you give it.
Happy Monday!
