It seems simple, but it was quite the challenge. You see the opening is only 15" wide but the hold is 23" wide inside. So I had to come up with a way to get the cabinet portion into the hold so the drawer would just fit through the opening and still be stable. Also, I need the ability to remove the entire thing in case maintenance is needed. So there are several PVC pipes running side to side with wood screwed to that for the drawer rails. To get it in/out, I need to tip then squeeze the rails together. This causes it to fold up like an accordion gate.
Another struggle was the battery. It was right in the way of the drawer. But I was able to turn it sideways and with some very careful positioning, get it to live along side the drawer. That battery is so heavy! If we ever decide to add a second battery, it would live on the other side of the drawer with long cables to connect to the battery switch. Very happy we only have one battery at the moment.
For now, our two main life jackets are all we are keeping in there. But we may decide to change that up soon. Until now, the hold area was pretty much a waste of space because there is water that flows through the bottom of the boat from the front to the back where it gets pumped out. Since the back is always the lowest point on the boat, this is really the only way to get all the rain and splash water out.
